Amazon VAT Validation Request: How to Respond and Avoid Suspension

Amazon can ask sellers to validate their VAT registration or provide documents showing they meet VAT obligations. Ignoring the request, or answering with inconsistent documents, can lead to listings being removed or the account being restricted.

What Amazon may ask for

  • A valid VAT registration certificate for the country concerned.
  • Matching company name, address and VAT number across your documents and your Amazon account.
  • Evidence of recent VAT returns, depending on the request.
  • Business registration documents or proof of address.

How to prepare your response

  1. Read the notice carefully and note the deadline and the country involved.
  2. Check that the VAT number is active and validate it in VIES where applicable.
  3. Make sure the legal name and address match exactly what is registered.
  4. Upload clear, complete documents through the channel Amazon indicates and keep a copy.
  5. Reply within the deadline and keep the case reference.

Common mistakes

  • Submitting a certificate with a different company name or address.
  • Providing documents for the wrong country.
  • Waiting until the last day to respond.
  • Not having the registration in place at all: see VAT registration for non-EU sellers.
