The official fee of an EU trademark depends mostly on how many classes of goods and services you cover. This guide shows the official amounts and the costs that usually come on top.
Official EUIPO fees (online filing)
- First class: €850.
- Second class: €50 more.
- Third class and each further class: €150 more per class.
- Renewal every 10 years: €850 for one class online.
These are the amounts published at the time of writing. Check the current fee list at the EUIPO before you file, because fees can change.
Examples
- 1 class: €850.
- 2 classes: €900.
- 3 classes: €1,050.
- 4 classes: €1,200.
Costs people forget
- A search for earlier similar marks before filing, so you do not pay for a mark that will be opposed.
- Professional fees if you use an adviser or a representative, which are separate from the official fees.
- The cost of answering an objection or an opposition, if one arrives.
- Renewal, ten years after filing.
- Translation or a logo design, if you register a logo.
Why classes decide the price
Each class is a group of goods or services. A seller of clothing and accessories may need more than one class, while a seller of a single type of product may need only one. Choosing the right classes is cheaper than correcting them later, and it is covered in EUIPO classes, search and opposition.
EU trademark or Spanish trademark?
A Spanish trademark is cheaper and fits if you sell mostly in Spain. An EU trademark costs more but can cover the member states with one filing, which fits sellers across several Amazon stores. The comparison is in Spanish or EU trademark for Amazon Europe.
